תשובה REPENTANCE: book one 1- 10

תשובה REPENTANCE:

1. Fasting helps for everything.

2. One who is bereft of any good deeds cannot separate others from their evil.

3. A fast is stronger than a sword.

4. It is fitting that repentance should be done through the very same matter (wherein one sinned).

5. When a person thinks, 'I will do such and such; such and such I will attain', through this his thought is not fulfilled.

6. Exile atones for everything.

7. One who is humble, it is as if he offered all the sacrifices.

8. Anyone who confesses has a portion in the World to Come.

9. One who teaches his friend's son Torah is as if he created him, and as if he made the words of Torah, and as if he made himself.

10. Rav (Rabbi) Papa fasted for having referred to a Torah scholar in a disparaging fashion.

לימוד learning 80-89

80. One who interrupted his Torah study for trivial matters, his rectification is to get up at midnight.

81. One who hates falsehood as he would an abomination, he will have passion to learn.

82. A book that a wicked person learned from, do not learn from it, for the letters of the book will make you wicked.

83. When you hear Torah or moral instruction from someone, and in you heart you gain no respect for him, it is certain that he is a fool.

84. Torah (learning) for which you incur expenses, through this it will not be forgotten from you.

85. One who chases after the desires of his heart, through this you will find him alluded to in all the passages of the Torah – disparagingly.

86. One who separates himself from the Torah connects to the Satan.

87. Two Torah scholars who honor each other in legal study for the sake of the Divine Presence, and in humility, G-d grants them success, and they rise to greatness, and merit to the Torah that was given by G-d's right hand, and merit to things given through the right hand of the Torah.

88. A Torah scholar who avenges and is spiteful like a snake -- cling to him, for in the end you will benefit from his learning.

89. It is forbidden to learn from one who is drawn to idol-worship, and one who learns from him is liable to the death penalty.

Clothing - BOOK ONE


בגדים CLOTHES:

BOOK ONE

1. A persons clothes hint at his character traits.

2. One who goes barefoot, it is certain that he sins.

3. As a result of brazenness, one is punished through his clothes, also due to [false] oaths.

4. One who is not careful not to look at his father's nakedness, in the end his children will go naked and barefoot.

5. One who eats before the prayer is punished through his clothes.

6. Due to arrogance, one is punished through his clothes.

7. One who seduces his friend away from the right path to the wrong one, will consequently not have with what to clothe himself.

8. One who is a guarantor for a non-Jews is punished through his clothing.

9. In the future, the Holy One Blessed be He will be avenged from those who dressed in the clothing of non-Jews.

10. One who goes in torn clothing due to poverty, his rectification is (through) weeping before the Blessed L-rd.

11. All who treat clothes with disrespect will end up not benefiting from them.

12. One who makes a garment for a poor person will be saved from humiliations.

13. One who is wary not to embarrass any man merits garments.
