ממון MONEY: book two 22-27

22. Traveling (lit. thoroughfares) brings a person to lushon hura (evil speech), idol worship, promiscuity, and spilling blood (i.e. murder), and these sins detract one's livelihood.

23. Through the money one gives to the poor of the Land of Israel, through this one's money is preserved in his keeping.

24. Fires (lit. burning) come to the world on account of money used for idol worship, to destroy it.

25. When a new king or a new minister arises, livelihood is renewed and undergoes change.

26. One who has dealings and business with non-Jews at the time of their festivals, or even not at the time of their festivals – but his revenue is from supplying things for their idolatry, through this his wife has bleeding shortly after her ritual immersion.

27. One who makes a separation between a man and his wife -- that is, he goes to the man and praises his wife to him, but goes to the wife and defames the husband in her eyes, until a separation is created between them -- he becomes troubled (-preoccupied, overtaken) by his expenses (for food or sustenance).

שרים MINISTERS:

1. One who's wine is diluted with water, the officials do not deal with him in a straight manner.

2. One who does not judge his fellow favorably is as if he killed him. Also the officials do not deal with him in a straight manner.

3. Saying of Hallel and giving charity are a segula (conducive) to [having] favor in the eyes of the minister.

4. Through eating bread baked by a non-Jew, the forest is prohibited from cutting down its trees.

5. Due to four things, the property of householders is handed over to the government (monarchy). [1) Keeping a note of debt after it has been paid off; 2) Charging interest; 3) Remaining silent in a case where one should speak out against evil; and 4) Promising to make a donation in public and not carrying through.]

אמונה Faith - book one - 33 - 42

33. Through faith, the Holy One Blessed be He will forgive you for all of your sins.


34. Sometimes, the Holy One Blessed be He sends suffering to a person and smites him, but does not cast him down into weakness. This is only for the sake of faith.


35. Through a false oath, one falls from faith.


36. Someone who lacks faith does not accept moral criticism.


37. Someone who does not believe in the words of the Tzadik, ultimately, he will have no benefit from the matter, even thought he sees [the matter come to pass].


38. Someone who lacks faith, it is certain that the decrees of the Holy One Blessed be He are despised by him.


39. The Messiah will come quite suddenly. As a result, because of joy, Israel will be frightened.


40. When the Messiah comes, then all the ministers above and below will get sick. But now, when a minister ascends, Israel are sickened.


41. In the time to come, each one who is younger in years than his fellow, will be higher.


42. Jerusalem was only destroyed because they profaned the Sabbath, nullified the recital of the Shema in the morning and evening, nullified [the Torah learning and prayer of the] young children (tinokos shel bais rabban), were not ashamed one from another, made the small and the great equal, and also did not rebuke each other, (and) also humiliated Torah scholars, (and) also men of faith desisted from her.
